I never understood many of the reasons people were proud of their heritage. I’m not talking national, more genetics.
Pride based on the color of your skin was a silly concept. You had nothing to do with it, unless you decided to bleach yourself like Michael Jackson.
But it’s not that simple, is it?
Black Pride, Hispanic Pride, even Gay Pride isn’t about that. It’s about saying that they matter as much as those in power do. That their lives are just as important as rich while people’s lives.
And of course, a lot of people don’t get it, or worse, disagree.
#BlackLivesMatter was countered with #AllLivesMatter, #BlueLivesMatter, #CopLivesMatter, and so on.
If all lives matter, then why are people killing each other? Why was an unarmed black caregiver in Florida shot by a cop while said caregiver was assisting an autistic man who was holding a toy truck? Why later on was the story changed to “they were aiming at the autistic man” as if that makes anything better?
Nobody knows. Not even the cop that pulled the trigger, or so he says.
I started this post the morning the news broke in Florida. I was sitting at work. Took me a few days to fix it, as writing from my phone works about as well as one might expect.
In that time I saw people defend the policeman, trying to say he didn’t know the autistic man wasn’t violent. Pretty sure that was in the video, the caregiver saying that. Giving all the information before he was shot.
Was nobody listening?
Nobody listens. People get shot.
This world is going to hell a little faster every day.
